Also known as orange peel syndrome, cellulite is a condition that is mostly noticeable on the buttocks and thighs and usually occurs after puberty. The skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance.

The condition is often classified using grades. At grade A, there are no clinical symptoms, but anatomical changes can be detected under microscopic examination of the cells. At Grade B, the skin shows pallor (pastiness) and is less elastic. The cellulite that show roughness visibly (orange peel), along with grade B characteristics, is grade C.

This is not a medical condition; cellulite is nothing more than normal fat beneath the skin. Neither is it harmful, but many people, especially women, would like to get rid of it because of the way it looks.

Several theories have been discussed and the cause of cellulite is not well understood. But several factors, including hormones, genetics, lifestyle factors including poor diet, smoking, a lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle, are thought to contribute. Tight clothing, particularly underwear, has also been cited by researchers.
