Several LASERs have been promoted for the treatment of spider veins and varicose veins. In general, and with few exceptions, LASER treatment does not work for spider veins of the legs. It works on the nose, and on certain congenital (inborn) lesions such as “port wine stains”, but it should not be advertised for the treatment of leg veins.

For reticular veins, transdermal LASER treatment may eradicate the underlying flat vein, however to treat them effectively, higher intensities are needed and the treatment is often associated with skin burns. Furthermore, the reticular veins are very easily treated with sclerotherapy. Naturally, we choose not to expose the patient to higher risks and more expensive procedures.

However, we recommend our endovenous LASER technology, which delivers energy directly to the inside walls of the affected vein (usually saphenous) after threading the LASER fibre into the vein. Unlike the transdermal laser, this is highly effective for the treatment of and elimination of a malfunctioning saphenous vein.
