ENDOMETRIAL ABLATIONS

Endometrial Ablation Procedure In Jumeirah, Dubai

An endometrial ablation is a procedure your doctor might consider if you bleed between your menstrual periods, have a heavy flow, or have periods that last a long time. If medicine doesn’t help, your doctor might suggest endometrial ablation procedure. It can curb the bleeding or stop it totally. Heavy menstrual bleeding can have many causes. Changing hormones might be the reason. Or it could be fibroids and polyps growing in your uterus. Endometrial ablation removes the endometrium, which is the lining of the uterus. In most cases, this stops you from having periods. If it doesn’t completely stop your periods, your flow should at least return to normal or be very light.

Endometrial ablation is the surgical ablation (destruction) of the uterine wall. The main aim of the endometrial ablation procedure is to reduce uterine bleeding. In some cases, the bleeding stops immediately. Slender tools are pushed into the uterus through the vagina hence there is no need to incise the abdomen. Tools are varied and they may include heated fluids, extreme cold, microwave energy and high energy radiofrequencies. It can either be done in a doctor’s room or in an operating room, it is all dependent on the size of uterus and type of condition.

What We Can Do

During the procedure

Endometrial ablation is done at a doctor’s room but sometimes it can be done under general anesthesia hence the need to perform it in a hospital. The cervix is dilated to allow the passage of instruments to be used, dilatation is done using dilators or medications. There are various types of endometrial ablation:

  • Scope is used to visualize the uterus; a heated wire loop is used to cave furrows in endometrium. One needs general anesthesia.
  • Extreme cold is used to create 2 to 3 ice balls freezing and destroying the endometrium. Ultrasound in real time follows up the action of the ice balls. An average freeze cycle takes 6 minutes then it is repeated till it is effective.
  • Free flowing hot fluid. Saline fluid is heated and pushed into the uterus for 10 minutes. It is effective for abnormally shaped uterus.
  • Heated balloon.  A balloon is inflated then pushed into the uterus; it is inflated with heated fluid.
  • A ward is inserted in the uterus and it releases microwaves.
  • It vaporizes the endometrial tissue in minutes.

After the procedure

  • Cramps
  • Vaginal discharge
