Causes of Vulvar Cancer

The cause of the vulvar cancer is unknown. It is believed general cells undergo a mutation which turns the cells to cancerous cells. Normal cells grow, multiply and die at a set rate, in contrast, cancerous cells grow, multiply and they do not die, hence creating a tumor. The tumor can break off and spread to other parts causing metastasis.

Prevention of Vulvar Cancer

In order to prevent vaginal and vulvar cancer a patient should:

  • Take regular pap smear tests and pelvic examination. Regular checkups ensure that cancer is caught early enough before it grows
  • HPV vaccination. Take the HPV vaccination early to prevent cancerous cells from getting into the body.
  • Stop smoking or do not smoke. Smoking increases the chances of vaginal cancer.
