CERVICAL BIOPSY

Biopsy Test for Cervical Cancer in Jumeirah, Dubai

A cervical biopsy is a surgical procedure in which a small amount of tissue is removed from the cervix. The cervix is the lower, narrow end of the uterus located at the end of the vagina. A cervical biopsy is usually done after an abnormality has been found during a routine pelvic exam or Pap smear.

A cervical cancer biopsy test is a tissue examination to determine a disease cause.

A cervical biopsy is the surgical removal of the tissue of cervix after an abnormality is noted after a pap smear. It is used to diagnose cancer and any other abnormality in the cervix. It is a conclusive cervical cancer test to determine the disease.

Cervical cancer biopsies can be done in several ways. The biopsy can remove a sample of tissue for testing. It can also be used to take out abnormal tissue completely. It also treats cells that may turn into cancer.

What You Can Do

  • Schedule your cervical cancer biopsy test just after your menstruation period. This will make it easier for your doctor to get a clean sample.
  • You should also need to discuss any medication you take with your doctor.
  • You should also stop having sexual intercourse during this time.
  • You will need to stop eating at least eight hours before the procedure.

Cervical Cancer Biopsy Procedure

Screening tests for cervical cancer that warrant cervical biopsy include a pap test and an HPV DNA test. A pap cervical cancer test needs the cervix to be brushed off and the cells tested for any abnormalities. Pap smear tests are done regularly for women who are in their reproductive age. HIV/AIDS clients and sex workers get a pap smear every year.

Cancer cells or changing cells are detected by a pap smear to determine the presence of cervical cancer. On the other hand, an HPV DNA test, includes the cervical cells being tested for DNA in HPV which causes cervical cancer.

A suspected cervical cancer requires one to do a cervical cancer biopsy test. A colposcope is an instrument used to enlarge the cells in the cervix, hence aiding the biopsy. The biopsy is taken using endocervical curettage and punch biopsy. Punch biopsy uses a sharp tool to take off cervical tissue samples. Endocervical curettage uses a curette to scrap off cells from the cervix.

When the endocervical curettage cannot be performed one uses cone biopsy and electrical wire loop. A cone biopsy procedure allows deeper layers of the cervix to be assessed and often it is done under anesthesia. An electrical wire loop uses a wire loop with low voltage to get the cervical tissue.

A cervical cancer biopsy is used to confirm the test, finally, cancer staging is done using other tests to confirm the diagnosis.
