Phlebectomy Procedures in Jumeirah, Dubai

Also known as a mini-phlebectomy, micro-phlebectomy or ambulatory phlebectomy, this is a procedure that involves the removal of varicose veins from the surface of the legs. It is performed in the office under local anesthesia. The phlebectomy procedure involves making small incisions through which the varicose veins can be drawn out. Veins are very collapsible vessels that are easily drained of blood and drawn out through the incisions. Patients are able to walk normally after undergoing the procedure.

Patients with ropey, tortuous bulging veins that did not respond to sclerotherapy are ideal candidates for a phlebectomy. The planning and preparat for a phlebectomy procedure are the same as for sclerotherapy.

What To Expect Afterwards

First 2 weeks

  • Normal activities can be resumed after a phlebectomy. Walking is encouraged, and compression stockings will be prescribed for use over the first 3 days after the procedure. Tanning and excessive sun exposure are not advised for few weeks as they may cause staining of the treated area. Air travel is to be avoided for the first 48 hours.
Bruising and some ecchymosis (purple build-ups of blood under the skin) is expected after a phlebectomy. Also there might be some hardening of the tissue.

Complications from Phlebectomy are infrequent. Rarely, an adjoining nerve may be caught in the hook (the instrument used for phlebectomy), resulting in numbness of a small patch of skin. This is usually transient. Localised haematoma is also another potential complication.
